PMC 2024 KEYNOTE ADDRESS:

CONGRESSMAN DEREK KILMER ‘96

Congressman Derek Kilmer has represented Washington’s Sixth Congressional District in the U.S. Congress since 2013. From 2019 to 2023, Congressman Kilmer led the Select Committee on the Modernization of Congress to achieve significant strides toward making Congress work better for the American people. He currently serves on the House Appropriations Committee and is a member of the Subcommittees on Interior & Environment, Defense, and Energy & Water. For his work on behalf of military families and civilian defense workers, he was awarded the U.S. Navy’s Distinguished Public Service Award: the highest honor a civilian not employed by the Navy can receive from the Secretary of the Navy.

Born and raised in Port Angeles during a time of high unemployment, Congressman Kilmer understands the unique issues that face the Olympic Peninsula, including the decline of local industry. As such, he has made creating economic opportunities for his constituents a priority, along with ensuring access to quality and affordable healthcare, protecting the environment, and supporting veterans. An article in the Washington Post named him as one of the five Democrats in Congress most able to pass significant legislation to benefit their constituents.
